Surviving Motherhood Blog for Eat Sleep Love

Every now and again, someone comes up with an idea that is so brilliant, you wonder why no one’s done it before. Meet Laura Slater, the new nursery consultant on the block, with her fabulous appointment only baby boutique, Eat Sleep Love, located in family focused Blackheath, SE3.

Laura is a good friend of mine who I met at pregnancy yoga when I was pregnant with no. 3 and she no.2. Laura’s one of those people that gets on with life. She’s warm, positive and very much a ‘can-do’ person.

The type of ‘can-do’ person that can launch a bespoke baby boutique in six months.

Whilst looking after a one year old and a three year old.

Tea and Macaroons.

When Laura first told me about her idea for Eat Sleep Love, I asked her why it was an appointment only boutique. ‘Won’t you miss a lot of walk by trade?’ I said.

‘I want mums and dads to feel relaxed,’ she said. ‘To have a couple of hours dedicated to them so they can try things out, work out what’s best for them and get everything in one visit, if they wish. So often when you go to the larger retailers, they don’t have the buggy you want to look at or the sales consultant doesn’t know how they work. Or they are just too busy to help you explore all the options properly.’

So this is what Eat Sleep Love does, that is so different to every other baby store I’ve been to. It’s an experience that’s more akin with buying your wedding dress. You get Laura’s undivided attention. She sits you down in her gorgeous showroom and, over a cup of tea and plate of macaroons, you make a list together of everything you need. And, just as importantly, she advises on the things you really don’t need. Hands up who has a pair of unworn baby flip-flops in their wardrobe…

Anyway. Laura had me at tea and macaroons.

Beautiful brands.

The thing that struck me when I first visited Eat Sleep Love was how unique and beautiful their brands are.

Aden and Anais. Merino Kids. Ergobaby. Snuzpod. Cybex. Babyzen (I bought their super compact Babyzen YoYo buggy and it has changed my life AND freed up my hallway). She’s done some serious research, which means you don’t have to. And she knows how EVERYTHING works.

I have three children and I’m sorry to say mine have never had anything so gorgeous. The changing bags by Pacapod and Jem + Bea (OMG I totally wanted an orange bag when I was pregnant). The cots by Boori. The very on trend grey feeding chair by Olli Ella. Well, don’t even get me started on that. I almost bought it. Now that I’m no longer breastfeeding but practically have a black belt in it. I’ve never had a feeding chair but can now safely say that everyone should invest in one. And this one rocks (as in, it actually moves). It’s super comfy. And it doesn’t compromise on style or look like it belongs in a nursing home.

Maybe I should just have another baby.

What else?

So aside from the brands and the macaroons, what else do they offer? Well, they have FREE parking right outside, deliver at your convenience and will even take away the boxes. No more waiting in for a 5 hour delivery slot that never turns up.

And, if that wasn’t enough, they offer an assembly service. So you don’t have to spend an afternoon effing and blinding at a stupid flatpack with missing screws and non-sensical instructions.

Oh and did I mention the macaroons?

Make an appointment.

As they enter their third month of trading, the word is spreading and the appointment slots are filling up. So don’t hang around. Give them a call on 020 8269 2525 or visit their website to book your appointment. They have a Boori promotion on until the end of January – 10% off one item, 15% off two piece furniture sets and 20% off three piece furniture sets.

They’re also offering all blog readers a beautiful Aden and Anais newborn gift for every order placed. Just mention Surviving Motherhood when booking or during your appointment.

Whether you live in Blackheath, Greenwich or further afield, it’s well worth making a visit.
